Stationed evenly between a pair of dueling small screen TV’s, on Saturday night I’m pulled in both directions, and I’ve never been happier!
Anyone who knows me well, knows I’m passionate about two teams:
Notre Dame Football, and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. That’s about it.
I lost my love for the NBA when Michael hung up his Air Jordans.
And the NFL just hasn’t been the same since the Browns left Cleveland.
But I’ll always bleed Gold and Blue, and I’ll always root for the Redbirds.
Which is precisely what made the 15 or 20 minutes from 11:20 to 11:40 on Saturday night that much more special.
To my left, a champagne-soaked celebration, as the Cards clinch the Central Division title (a mere formality).
To the right, the Irish tally a last minute TD, coming from behind to beat Purdue (why it had to come to this, I’ll never understand).
But purely due to the fact that both exciting events happened at virtually the same time, it’ll likely forever rank as one of my most memorable sporting spurts.
Of course, it’s only fitting that I’d be at work during these magical moments.
Then again, perhaps that’s why I work in sports.
Highlights below (Cardinals and other baseball games only, unfortunately, we don’t cover ND at mlb.com)
